About Our Ads Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Joel Faglier met the media Saturday after his win over Javad Mahjoub at UFC Fight Night 291.
Faglier (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) got his ass kicked in the first round on the prelims at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. There's no other way to put it. But he got to the second and lit up Javad Mahjoub (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) for a comeback TKO.
Though Faglier took plenty of punishment from the bulking heavyweight in the opening minutes, he also saw him fall to his knees after the first five minutes – barely able to make it to his corner, exhausted from his barrage of punches. Once the second started, he turned the tide immediately and wrapped up the rally.
Faglier took the fight on just two weeks' notice. He dedicated the win to he and his wife's infant son, who died unexpectedly the day he was born 14 months ago.
"He could've hit me with a brick, and that wouldn't have been enough. There's nothing in that cage that's going to happen to me that I haven't dealt with worse things outside of the cage. I've been in the lowest of lows, the darkest of dark places. I knew all I had to do was drag him there, and the fight was going to be mine."
"We knew that he was going to try to blow me out of the water early, that he was going to be very antsy from all the fans he had here. We knew if we took him to the second round, the longer the fight went, the closer it got to my favor."
